Big Letdown at Burton at Windy City Ski and Snowboard

I'm new to the snowboarding world, and really excited to learn, even at the age of 27. My boyfriend is an avid snowboarder, and rode with some of the greatest in the world back in the beginnings of boarding.
When it came for me to buy my own board, boots, bindings- well everything- one word came out of his mouth- Burton.

We went to the Windy City Ski and Snowboard Show, and I couldn't wait to stop by the Burton tent. What a huge let down. Burton had an old red tent set up with hardly nothing. They had 4 boards sitting on the corner and some material samples, and about 400 square feet of nothing. Being one of the biggest suppliers of snowboarding, and Jake pretty much inventing it, one would think Burton would showcase their new wares.

The two sales people were nice and semi-knowledgeable, one woman went against the bindings suggested by the manufacturer and recommended a different type with the Burton board I just bought from Sierra.

Some of the smaller companies Forum, 686, K2, and Arbor all had wicked displays and tons of material, product on display and people.

I was really disappointed by Burton. People who come to these events have made this company very rich. Burton should have paid back the customers by putting up a great display. As a beginner, I would have loved to see and feel the products. I had no chance of this. Instead, it seemed like Burton was too good for Windy City. It was saying, "We don't even need to try, you will buy our stuff anyways..." I've since returned my bindings, and shopped with a company who actually invests in their customers. Next time I shop, that will be in the back of my head.

yep your pretty spot on about burton. thats the way many large corporations are these days.burton has already made a great reputation for themselves so now they figure that they dont really have to try as hard as some of the other smaller and less known companies do.im not a burton hater or anything, its just that ive noticed in the past few years price has gone up and quality has gone downhill. i personally dont use burton boards, boots or bindings. there are alot of good companies out there its just that alot of people are brainwashed into thinking Burton= Best.

I disagree. You are overreacting. I do suggest that you boycott Burton and the bmb, though.

considering the way they treated the ex-users of the bmb, it should not surprise anyone how they treat their customers.

Re: Big Letdown at Burton at Windy City Ski and Snowboard

First problem:  Your boyfriend doesn't know much if to this date he's still suggesting Burton.

Second problem:  Assuming by Windy City you mean Chicago that area is ran by one of the biggest douchebag reps I have ever encountered.  He doesn't care about you nor does he care about most people.  His ego is large and he feels that he doesn't need to market that brand because people like your boyfriend are big enough trolls to still buy the brand.

Resolution: Get a boyfriend that doesn't brag and claim to ride with the best in the world back in the day and don't drink the Koolaide of Burton.

Girl dont waste your time trying to snowboard. you're gonna quit after your first or second run on the bunny slope cause you smacked your head or *** to hard. Save your money and go buy your man a some beer and cook him dinner.
