MMT:Hey Red Baron how did the easy livin flying v handle on the rails it must be wierd with the board being all wavy and also how did u like riding the custom
Does it really matter?

Burton made the early supermodels with cap construction. I have two. I think Burton copied it from skis, perhaps Solomon.
Fashback to the late 80's early 90's
A lot of what you mentioned was invented by riders modifying their own boards 2-3 years before the companies started selling it.. It was common practice where I first snowboarded. To me, that will always be part of what snowboarding's about. Imagine only 10 boarders on the hill and nobody knows jack. So, everyone's experimenting with gear and new tricks. The only place to get a board was to order it through a catelog because no place within several hours even sells them. You should see my old homemade highbacks, self cut tip shapes and modified sorrel boots.
It seems to me that Burton is a big company now and plays it safe by letting other companies try out new technology. Burton copies and refines the stuff that works before adding it to their line up. They have good stuff, but I wouldn't say they're the big innovators anymore. Mervin, Neversummer, and a few others are taking the big risks.
If it were ten years ago i would have said, "Could you imagine Nike making skate shoes or snowboard boots?"
ardtus: Nike buying up Burton.
