A new improvement with the 09 line with speedzone is the simple fact that you just pull both sides upper and lower zone and yank back DONE. They (we) have eliminated the step of crossing the lace over the hook.Which makes it much faster to boot , suit and beat your friends to first chair on a powder day since there is no friends on a pow day. Also laces are much more bomber proof and durable as well as the cletes have been improved ,so they WILL NOT slip or get loosed through out the day.Rode two variations of the Driver X project I was happy my feet were warm dry and comfortable.Bring on the hate...Im over it!

I feel like I need to count the cliches in that post...

    Define "bomber proof"?

So apparently you work for Burton, would I be correct to assume you do some sort of marketing?

I got Moto's this year and when my brother and I would go boarding together he would be laced up faster than me.
If I outgrow my boots this year I'm definitely just getting normal boot.

Well duh.  It's only logical, since SpeedZone offers no advantages over regular boots other than speed of lacing (and even that's a lie!)..

I'm pretty stoked on the new lace materials they're using.

    Re: speed lacing?

I just had to send my Ion's back today for a couple of problems.

The lower lace on the right boot will not stay locked. You pull it tight and it just gets loose standing there. It is like the teeth are not grabbing the lace anymore.

The heel on the left boot is coming unglued. I don't want them to fall apart.

On both boots, I have replaced the laces both upper and lower zones twice this season.

I sure hope that this new speed zone will be a more solid system. Other than the problems with my laces and the heel, my Ion's have ridden great this season. I cant wait to get them back. Stuck in an old pair of DC's for now until my Ions return. :-(

speedzone looks tempting, but il stick with the tried and true lace-ups.

the extra few seconds to do em up is a small price to pay for complete piece of mind

The 08 Ion's are the ones I had to send back. The lace design is actually changing next season. I am just pretty pissed that I don't get to finish my season in these boots.

These are the Ions I just sent back, same color too. Hurry back boots!

this has happened to both toes for two straight years. (same year boot though.) they'll probably warranty them again.

    if not, whatever.

that sounds good to me, I'll probably try to hold off another year before I get new boots though unless my Drivers fall apart.

you're right, but I think it's easier to fix traditional laces "on hill" or go into the resort shop and pick up a pair of generic laces to replace the broken ones.  I winded up riding the last day of the season with a hiking boot lace on my right upper zone.  What happened with my boots was the logo on the tongue of my Driver X boots wore out the lacings outer cover until the inner was exposed and it snapped.  Still love my boots and speedzone in general, but definately stoked to here that the system is improving.
