Holy crap. Sore hands much? Grip strength is gonnnne! A fun day though,a couple of bails and some "*** that, that's way out of my league" moments, but some major stoke after getting through a couple of really tech, steep DH sections. No photos, as my camera was in my friends bag all day. Fail.

Funny, grip strength has nothing to do with sore muscles. I went to the doctor today and I may have nerve damage or torn tendons in my finger/hand. From two 'nothing' falls.

    MRI on Monday, wheeeee.

yikes. let me know if you have any questions.

will do. I don't think there is much I can do at this stage. Wait and see. It could be a whole lot of things. Nerve damage, tendon damage, or maybe just pinched nerves from 2 days of holding on to the bars too tight!

it's basically a motorcycle without the motor.  yeah it's a stupid amount of money to spend on a bike, but at least when you look at it you can actually see why it's so expensive.  unlike a vapor.

Or you can get a tricked out Carbon Fiber Road bike for $15k.....or one of Lance's rigs that are supposedly worth more than $30k each.

    Re: 2009 official bike thread

Just went on a couple great rides down in the Bay Area the past couple of days on trails I've never ridden before. First we rode the Soquel (pretty much Santa Cruz for you non Nor Cali-ians) Demonstration Forest and it was mega. Crazy, crazy steep climb to start though....nearly 3 miles of it and at least 1500 vert. But it was all very, very worth it because the single track that came after was amazing. Steep and flowing, challenging and technical but 100% rideable. There were more than a couple of sections of trail that my buddy and I just had to turn around and ride again. Lots of fun little features have been built there from very simple drops to medium difficulty log rides and jumps, nothing crazy but all super fun. It did end in a long but not too steep slog back to the parking lot....I swear, it was the longest 4 miles I've ever ridden but it was sooooo worth it. I think we ended the day at about 14 miles and nearly 3k of climbing.

Today we rode in Marin at the Tamarancho Park just outside of Fairfax. Not nearly as steep and tech as Demo but still very fun. Much more pedally though, and after yesterday I was dragging pretty hard. The loop we rode had a gajillion switchbacks, both up and down but none so tight as to be unrideable or frustrating. I felt pretty good on the first half and the Broken Dam Trail was super fun....just a great flowing Big Ring cruiser. But after that it got a lot more "Cross Country" as my buddy put it. Lots of up and down and by this time I didn't have the strength to really keep the flow going. Rode the entire loop though, which was 12 miles or so and about 2k (according to my friend but it HAD to be more) of vert. The really cool thing about Tamarancho was that the trail network crisscrossed ridges on the coastal range in Marin and we rode through 3 or 4 distinctly different climate zones. Everything from open, dry Bay Area grassland to coastal rain forest, it was awesome.

It was a good couple of days.

    Re: 2009 official bike thread

Paul, sounds like fun. I'd love to ride out there someday.

I literally "found" a network of trails right up the road from me in one of my friend's backyard. It's a huge parcel of land that a private company owns and plans to develop it someday, but right now it has a whole bunch of little loops and one wicked fast singletrack trail that drops down to a pond surrounded by pines. Really cool little place to rip around for an hour or 2. I will definitely go back there. No bikers ever go in there as the only way to get in is off the back of this office building or thru my friend's neighborhood. Weird.

BTW, totally loving my new bike. Way better than I expected.

Sunday River bike park opens today, all new trails and some skills stuff new for this year. Planning on lots of riding over the 4th of July.

MRI found 2 torn ligaments in my hand. Trying to get an appt with the surgeon next week. Doctor thinks it should heal on it's own but wants a second opinion.

Either way, probably no bikey for me.

    ilikepie:
Fixed gears have been around for over a hundred years, and people have always ran brakes on them. Before idiot hipsters came around riding brakeless on the streets the only people who really rode brakeless were track racers, and only because having brakes would cause wrecks on the velodrome. Fucking hipsters.

They're not the only ones... i ride brakeless on this...

    still needs some paint

Built that in one night for under 300$ after i messed up my Norco Sasquatch. After replacing two wheels, the third one would have cost just as much as me building up that new bmx.
