i've been trying to educate myself as much as possible on the 8 series, as i would like to possibly buy one or an aformentioned 635csi (but what yearSleep the question). i realize that bmw produced just under 31k 8 series, so purchasing could be tricky.

any advice on what years to look?
yeah none of them, they suck bawlz for anything other than a highway pig. prepare to poop your pants with maintenance costs esssspecially the v12's. I would never ever in my lifetime buy a v12 bmw, possibly one of the worst ideas they ever had other than the 318ti
I have never seen the appeal of cars with huge powerful engines that are only meant for driving fast in a straight line. I'll take something light with just enough power over some huge car any day. In general most cars are getting too big.

i was looking for a v8 850 series.  from what i have read and heard, bmw does not have a solid history of 12-cylinder engines.
I thought that the 850's were V12 only... I know the 840s have V8s. Out of curiosity, what part of the 8 series appeals to you?

you are correct, i meant to add the 840 series in there.

i agree, cars are way too big and guzzle too much gas.  i was thinking i would like to start looking for a nice sunday afternoon car to drive in the off season of riding.

not sure what appeals to me on the 8 series... maybe i envision myself as apoor don johnson in it?  i like the look of them..... ok, off for sushi.

911 is always tempting.  cayman too.  but if we're talking about performance for the dollar, lotus elise.

nothing like seeing my oversized neighbor squeeze his fat-self into his vomitess orange elise.

horrible body design.  both of them, for the record.

i'm not a fan of the looks of the elise, but i kind of appreciate the go-kart approach.  nice visual on the neighbor, maybe he'll get stuck sometime.

you manage to find the best photo i've seen of it yet.  but still.  the M3 was supposed to be about the track.  now it's tipping the scales at what, like 3600+ lbs?  to me that's inappropriate.

but yeah after that photo pig is definitely the wrong word.  slightly porkish?
Inappropriate??? the e92 m3 weighs less than the e46 and it's got two more cylinders.

the engine weighs less, the car does not.
    e46 m3:  3415 lbs
    e92 m3:  3704 lbs
that's a huge difference, and takes into account the weight savings of the carbon fiber roof.

The 8 series is really more of a cruiser, but I like it's classic styling. The 840 is what you would want. The v12 is rediculiously smooth and sounds awesome, but doesn't give you that much more power, at least in the 7 series I have driven with the v8 vs v12 engines.

The 635csi is a rad car and appreciated in value. My dad bought one 1 month before he passed away and had just finished it up before he died. He had literally picked up the last parts the day he went to the ER. It was a dream car for him. We baby that car now and every time I drive it I get emotional. It is a cool design and the 3.5 liter engine is super reliable.

You should walk away from driving an e92 M after an e46 feeling that the newer one is the better car. Otherwise, BMW's M division has failed miserably on a very highly anticipated machine.

man, really sorry to hear about your pops.  what a gift he left you with-care to post a pick of it?

i really love the styling of the 635csi's (old school moreso, although the new ones are very nice).

The carbon roof isn't there just to save weight. It massively lowers the center of gravity, improving handling.

BMW anti-gravitational technology is what they're calling it.

I also read somewhere that Audi may replace the RS4 with an RS5 equipped with a 500+ horsepower engine.

I've heard there will be a RS5, but I also heard they will do a new RS4 which will be dual charged...turbos and a supercharger.

I'm searching for a pic of the a day when we lined up all the families bimmers and took a pick. It looks awesome. At the time we had 5 or 6 in the family. I'll post it when I find it.
