    When to wax new board?

If I buy a new 09 model, would it need to be rewaxed or is the factory tune good after the year or so it has sat?

Depends if you do your own waxing. If you do then go ahead and use very little wax, mostly to nourish any drier areas on the base. You cant wax too often. On the other hand if you're gonna pay someone to do it, you could, but budget depending it's not needed.

I have heard that you should wax your skis 3 times over even when they are brand new. I worked at a shops so I did that. If you have to pay someone else to wax id just wax after the first or second day.

If it's a Burton, just go ahead and ride it once or twice. If you want to wax it, you can, but you should be alright for a day or two.

This is one of those personal preference areas. Personally I used to never wax a new board, I'd just ride it for a while and then take it to the shop. If you're going to be riding a lot though, spend the money on the iron. It's cheap, $35-$40. The other stuff is cheap too. Once I started, I would wax the board every couple days, because I could really notice the difference and didn't want to give up any speed.

Re: When to wax new board?

It'll ride fine for a day or two on factory wax. I wax mine right away though. You never know how long that board has been sitting and what conditions it's been through with that wax on it. Wax is cheap and doing it yourself takes very little time. So why not make sure you're getting the best ride possible?

You shouldn't need to do anything to the edges unless you're a park rat and then you'll probably want to detune them.

I have a question in respect of the iron. Is there any problem if the iron base is made out of teflon, because I don't think nowdays the iron base is made out of iron. I heard there is a problem with the waxing process if the iron base is made out of teflon. (frankly I don't think there is a problem in this respect).

just get the RED iron, its good and its cheap.

full wax when new, and every few ride days after. If you want to save time and/ wax, you can just wax the edges and just do the whole thing every third wax.

Re: When to wax new board?

Thanks All, appreciate the input. I do my own waxing and the iron is such a great tool. Anyone have an opinion on technique? I personally wax, scrape, cork then use a green scotch pad directionally tip to tail. Any thoughts?
