GAP- the license plate abbreviation for Garmisch.

Hey fellow euros, looks like it's time to call in sick to go riding! SOuthwest Switzerland has had a pretty phenomenal week of riding! It's almost 9am now on Friday and it is absolutely dumping! Calling for lots of snow until Sunday! I'm need painkillers from riding every single chance I can, running to the lifts as soon as I finish a run! lunchbreaks, mornings, anytime I'm not working! I hope you boys and girls can take advantage as well, happy ripping!

Well I don't have the dough to travel extensively plus exam tomorrow, but the northside of the alps ain't that great these days. Sure, we got like 20cm on tuesday/wednesday, but the south got something like 70cm - again.
So yeah, it's not great everywhere; but thanks for the wishes though.

I'm sorry to hear that. We got about 1 meter in 24 hours, this year is slowly comparing to 99'. Tomorrow's going to be a tip-toey kind of day if anything above tree line actually opens

Re: Riders in Österreich / Deutschland / Schweiz

Back from Garmisch, thumbs down. Lodging was subpar, and riding wasn't so great either.

Spent Sunday on the lower slopes, which became a sheet of ice, so the last run was really really lousy. The layout of the areas makes it really difficult to get around, and I think I spent more time traversing and walking than actual riding.

Monday, what little snow the place got (4 cm) was tracked out. So I made a bad call and should have gone further west. Oh, and the train was an hour late. Not that I should be complaining, but wasn't really worth it.

Highlight was walking from Bayern to Tirol and vice versa.

South is where it's at.  If you guys are ever in the Valais, let me know.  I've got a pretty full schedule but I can atleast point you in the right direction for the goodies....

Thanks for the offer! But to be honest, even if the south is where it's at these days, in general I'm quite happy where I am ;)

But yeah, if you ever need some pointers around Arlberg feel free to shoot me a PM.

Re: Riders in Österreich / Deutschland / Schweiz

No worries, was on the slopes myself on saturday, but had to leave early since there were some problems with the heater. We did work on the time it takes us down Trittkopf (we take the southernmost run, but don't count the cattrack you have to take there), guess I'm somewhere around 2:41 now.
Oh and another funny tidbit was on friday when the liftie at Hexenboden said to my friend "You are riding way too fast, if you do that again I'll pull your liftticket" just to see me ariving and then saying "oh and same with your friend" (there was basically no one around, guess the dude was just angry about fast snowboarders)

Re: Riders in Österreich / Deutschland / Schweiz

So looked at train fares for this weekend, and it's way way expensive. WTF?

Anyways, got a lecture on Friday, and a meeting on Monday, so if I go anywhere it will have to be squeezing things pretty tight. Shame, since the snow is looking good this weekend.

Re: Riders in Österreich / Deutschland / Schweiz

just got back from an amazing 6 week european holiday. had an incredible time, 1 day at innsbruck, 3 days at st anton and 2 days at davos (the rest of the time spent in norway). those slopes are all incredible as are the lift systems and the general infrastructure you guys are really lucky to have it at your doorstep! can't wait to go back and explore more. they seem to be a little anti-snowboard in some of those places but i can live with that to experience such amazing riding. cheers.
