I just read an article in some car mag claiming that the new M3 is a "near-perfect sport sedan"

Nah the RS4 would kick its ass
Today I saw my Nissan GTR on the road and how my god this thing can fly
A British car show (fifth gear maybe?) said that the new M3 felt "soft" . However, he was doing a comparison test between the GTR, 997 911 GT3, and the E92 M3. That could explain his comment.

I have found the BMW's I've owned to be very reliable. They do require regular maintainance though, they are not a Honda. Any M car is going to require more maintainance and parts are more costly.

    Currently have a '95 540i w/6 speed (e34)
    Before '89 325i  (e30)
    and '88 528e (e28)
Various '76 2002's - the most fun, but most labor intensive

I love the power of the 540i, but it feels big after 2002's and e30's. I will probably sell it in a few months and buy a nice e30 to mod. Those cars are so fun with some suspension work and insurance is cheap.
Any clean 80s/early-mid 90s BMW will always look good in my book. Last winter I saw one of the first generation (E?) 7 Series on the highway. It was black with tan interior, the car looked brand new. Trouble is, BMWs like that are hard to come by, and won't look that good without a lot of work.

I agree for the interior quality, the e36s look older in a significant way. I tried a 93 318is, loved the handling. I'm set on getting a rwd or awd car.

I looked through forums... alot of hype over the ///M's, have you ever tried one?

the M is worth the hype.  imo e46 M3 is the second best incarnation, after the e30 M3.
it is an amazing car.  driving one feels like a fighter jet, especially with the paddles.

e36 M, still a great car, but lacks the power & doesn't make up the difference in handling.  the e46 should start depreciating faster now that the e9x M is here.  but people are still asking way too much for them.

if you can find it within budget, my vote is for 330xi for awd pwnage + great power

I want an e46 ///M very bad, 06 with the csl's engine... no paddle please, gimme a stick! and the fun that is driving with a clutch. this is my dream car, the dream that, if I do well in the next few years, will come true... real dream is a zonda.

330's are really tempting, there is a few ones with 120-140K kms... wich means I could drive it up to 220ish at LEAST...

Shralp, what's the mileale on your cars, tell me some about the maintenance, how much/ year average. thanks.

    chevy camaro, nah...

E30 325is with an S50 Swap. If I had somewhere to store a second car, I'd do it

That is what I would love to do. Even with suspension work they are so fun to drive. I recommend removing the power steering belt and heading for the nearest curvy road.

This is my brothers car before he lowered it.

Awesome, I've always wanted an E30. Easily one of the best looking BMW's ever in my opinion. They are pretty cheap as well.

Someone recommended a B5 A4. I'm just gonna say be careful. I like mine, but part of me wishes I had not bought it. I'm tired of fixing it.

This is in no way an attempt at a thread highjack or an attempt at getting flamed I'm just too baked to look for the Lesbaru thread. (Sans rancune FdixHuit).

I've been seeing alot of these lately and I get that butterfly feeling. Not the wrx just the sti sport.

nothing like seeing my oversized neighbor squeeze his fat-self into his vomitess orange elise.

horrible body design.  both of them, for the record.

Agreed (about the car I mean, I would need pics of the neighbour).

I recommended the B5, my grandpa has a 2001 A4 and it hasn't had any issues. However, I've heard some horror stories regarding late 90s B5 models.

A lot of car reviewers are saying that the STI has gone soft and that the EVO X is the better car of the two. Although, the new STI was marginally faster than the new evo around Topgear's test track. Both look pretty good, though.

Pig??? I disagree, even if I still prefer the older model.

you manage to find the best photo i've seen of it yet.  but still.  the M3 was supposed to be about the track.  now it's tipping the scales at what, like 3600+ lbs?  to me that's inappropriate.

but yeah after that photo pig is definitely the wrong word.  slightly porkish?

Inappropriate??? the e92 m3 weighs less than the e46 and it's got two more cylinders. The only porkish part about it is the boner you'll pop when you hear how it sounds.

and for the OP in my opinion get a 325xi. i just picked one up a 02 with 109k for 7600, you just need to know where to get the illest deals. If you're just getting your license, you're not a good driver i will tell you that now you can *** and moan about how you are, but you have close to zero experience even with your permit. rear wheel drive is a horrible idea i had an e36 328is that i attempted to drive one winter, but i got so fed up with it i bough a winter beater car instead and stored the e36 every winter. You're young, don't waste your money on an M//, you'll be paying out the a$$ for maintenance/insurance. But this is all my experience, take what you please from it.

i dont think elise's are the ugliest cars, they're pretty cool looking. interesting design. but elise is the most impractical car i have ever seen in production for the middle class (if you can call it that these days) unless you autocross or spend days at the track i really wish i could punch whomever owns one in the neck for buying it.

$7,600 US? That's an insane deal if it wasn't a salvage title or anything.

I also second not buying a nice car if you are an inexperienced driver. Chances are, you will fvck it up.

i've been trying to educate myself as much as possible on the 8 series, as i would like to possibly buy one or an aformentioned 635csi (but what yearSleep the question).  i realize that bmw produced just under 31k 8 series, so purchasing could be tricky.

any advice on what years to look?

yeah none of them, they suck bawlz for anything other than a highway pig. prepare to poop your pants with maintenance costs esssspecially the v12's. I would never ever in my lifetime buy a v12 bmw, possibly one of the worst ideas they ever had other than the 318ti

Senor_Hosfelt- yeah i was soo pumped with i came across it. clean title, no accidents, new fuel pump (because mobil fucked up their ethanol mixture in VT and decided to not tell anyone)

i was looking for a v8 850 series.  from what i have read and heard, bmw does not have a solid history of 12-cylinder engines.
