    burton demo weekend board review

demo weekend at my local means i got to test out a couple boards.

    09 boards included 55 fix, 58 custom x, 59 t6, 55 hero
    2010 boards were 56 joystick & 58 hero.

snow was soft and the cover was fair. visibility was rubbish as was the sleet and occasional rain. i dont do rails and rarely go through the park, prefering natural hits and drops. currenlty on a Trice 157 with co2 bindings

so here's my brief and mostly crappy review:

2009 58 custom x with co2 est bindings - really really liked this board. nice pop, stable at speed, carved beautifully, solid through the crud and fast base. would buy and recommend this board. just brilliant.

2009 59 t6 with c60 bindings - dull, lifeless and all together un-inspiring. carved well, stable and fast but just kinda lacked personality. much prefered the custom x. wouldnt buy this board nor recommend it.

2010 58 hero with cartel est - first time on a reverse camber board. was a bit apprehensive about the edge hold initially but these concerns were unfounded - had no problem carving. softest board ive been on and found it nice and playful. presses very easily. nimble too. would buy and recommend. ollies felt a little weird to do.

2009 55 fix with triad est - susprisingly good ride. stiffer than i expected. carved fine. without doubt the most catch free board ive been on. good times dorking around just spinning it down the hill. found it a decent board - no real complaints but at the same time nothing about it was particularly inspiring or exciting. prefered the hero. wouldnt buy but would recommend.

2009 55 hero with cartel est - was expecing big things from this board after a great time on the 2010 58. dont know if any tech has changed between the 2009 to the 2010 or if it was the length difference, but had more fun on the 58. similar ride, but the 58 felt softer and all round more playful. cowgirl graphic (pvstk) kinda cool. wouldnt buy the 09 55 - 2010 58 was better.

2010 56 wide joystick with cartel est - despite being v rocker this board almost felt normal. stiffer than the hero and more stable at speed. poppier than the hero. the width annoyed me a little - less nimble than the 58 hero. really wanted the 57 but no luck there. would buy and recommend

if i didnt particularly want something a little more playful with reverse camber (japan trip in the works), id grab the custom x without hesitation. brilliant freeride board. otherwise i really liked the hero and joystick and will probably go for a joystick 157.

    the end

i found these quick little reviews to be "better," as far as reviews go, than more elaborate ones.  its conveyed well that this is how YOU felt, and you dont go overboard with tech nonsense.. it leaves it open to the fact that not everyone feels the same.  you were also pretty general, which is good in this case, because claiming more specific characteristics of a board is all very relative and subjective.

only said that because most of the reviewed boards will be gone in a couple weeks to make way for new ones.

aaaaand....as far as reviews go, nothing i haven't really heard before.

nice review gonzo, totally second your opinion on the custom x, a great board. how much do you weigh, if you don't mind? just trying to put your review in perspective, especially what you thought about the hero. i rode the '09 55 this past winter and loved it for what it was - way different from my uninc and cx
    thanks

Yeah, you best take it back. You don't want to have a unique opinion or go against the grain you know.

bout 75kg, so thats what 160pound-ish? close enough

also, its come to my attention i listed the T6 as a 2009 when it was in fact a 2010. also the little black plastic dampener cover thing (you know the thing i mean) was peeling off on the front rear edge. guessing it was due to boot scuffing issues when skating and getting on & off lifts etc. minor thing, but it was an annoyance all the same.

    nice concise review review review.

Doc, your review review review review was a little to technical and wordy. I will take it with a grain of salt, like I do all review review review reviews.

One last question though: how does it ride on groomers?
