I'd like to be there for the final week of the Olympics, but for the first week my friends and I are planning on getting out of town.

So... where should we head on our roadtrip?

Option 1: Over to Nelson, BC... hitting up some backcountry operations on the way out there. I also know that Big Red Cats (who I've been wanting to catboard with for years) is out that way.

Option 2: Revelstoke and Golden BC. I don't know much about these areas but I know the pow is supposed to be great. I'm sure there are tons of backcountry ops/catboarding ops out there too. Also Kicking Horse resort.

Obviously I'd like to hit ALL the above places, but I don't think it can be done in a week, can it?

Sooooo what do you think? I want to go to a place that is sick--we thought about heli, but bad weather grounding scares me. I'd hate to cruide all the way up and get skunked!

Sooo, we're going cat boarding. I found a place that looks pretty sick in the Monashee's--its called Mustang cat boarding. They only allow like 15 people in the lodge at a time, so its pretty intimate. Terrain looks sick. I have read about Island Lake Lodge and all that, so thats a possibility--wondering where you guys would suggest checking out?

MUST be in interior BC--no where near the coast ranges (Whistler)--we're looking for light, dry pow.

anything but i have a question for the people. Some friends and i are
planning a trip to colorado in march
when most schools are on spring break. we live in omaha, nebraska and
there is not much of anything for boarding options and we are planning
on hitting up a
ski resort in colorado where the spring breakers will be and a good
resort to just party and have some fun while we're out there
and snowboard for about a week. I have never been anywhere out there
other than keystone, which we are not planning on going to. Right now
we're
thinking between steamboat springs and crested butte. i just wanted
peoples opinions on which one of these might be better for spring
break/breakers and the partying atmosphere involved with spring break
and if there are any other options for better colorado resorts. we
don't want
to go to vail or aspen or places like that because they are too
expensive and probably not what we are going for. What
are your guys' opinions on where to go?
thanks

paul

mounntain help

What is the best mountain on east coast.

Remember Gilles Blackburn and his lawsuit?

Apparently it ain't dead yet.

http://www.edmontonsun.com/news/canada/2009/06/21/9880586.html

JP...

You think Big White is going to be crowded during the Olympics?
Both Blackcomb and Whistler mountains have been evacuated as a vigorous forest fire quickly grew to 75 hectares on Thursday afternoon.

Fire crews were protecting nearby lodges from the uncontained blaze, but Whistler Fire Chief Rob Whitton said the fire was not threatening any Olympic runs or lifts.

Seven air tankers and several helicopters are dropping water and fire retardant on the fire, according to the B.C. Ministry of Forests. Whitton said the winds appear to be pushing the fire east, away from the village.

A lightning strike is believed to have started the fire around 11:45 a.m. PT on the east coast of Crystal Ridge, halfway up the mountain on the northwest flank of Blackcomb Mountain, according to a statement released by Julia Waring, communications director for the Resort Municipality of Whistler.

Witnesses said flames stretched more than 30 metres into the sky.

Pina Belperio watched the fire grow with a bird’s-eye view from across Green Lake, north of Whistler.

"You can see lots of red-orange flames building up, and the wind’s just blowing the flames just right now, just activating the whole fire," said Belperio.

Ellie Dupont, fire information officer for the coastal fire centre, said the current heatwave is partly to blame.

“We’ve been going through quite a drying period. And then the lightning we’ve been receiving, I think this is the third hit for that area,” said Dupont.
