    Base problems

    Whatsup guys,

So quick question here, I put a small gash in the base of my uninc this weekend which pretty much penetrated to the core. So in case of any water being absorbed i have let it sit for a while also having a blowdryer sit over to hopefully try to evaporate any water that may have gotten inside. So is it worth it to let it sit before I p-tex it up? or if any water has gotten into the core at all is it effed up for good?

First off this site (http://www.tognar.com/) has everything you'll need for repairing your board. Of course, though, a fair few of the tools can be substituted for similar tools and/or can be found at any decent hardware store.

Normal p-tex drip candles won't bind to anything other than other p-tex so it can't be used in this application.

If the damage isn't very large you'll need what they call "Metal Grip Repair String". You'll also need to get a repair (for lack of a better term) iron which will run $35. You'll need the iron for this as it's harder than the standard drip candle and will bind to the wood, which the drip candle won't. Fill in the gauge around half way with this stuff then fill in the rest with a drip candle.

As the p-tex candle material will not absorb wax, which won't matter if it's a small area. However, you may still want to repair it with a sintered material, which is harder to do. And since you probably don't even need to go this route I'm not going to get into it.

This is the cheapest iron for the job and works well enough.

    And the "repair string"

Sounds like you're gonna need a core shot.

The info above is totally correct; however, if you've never done your own tuning you may get in over your head with this.

I'd recommend going to your nearest shop and have them do the work.  It will cost you some coin and some time, but at least you're investment will be repaired by a professional.
