v50 awds - only a few were made in the US each year so it is hard to find one new or used. my wife gets offers to sell hers back to the dealership at almost full MSRP (ridiculous), but a stable car. check to see if you can get a deal through the US Open or vendor agreements or hey may be Leanne Pelosi is selling hers.
a4 avant - make sure to get one that has low miles. once the thing hits 100k miles, you're going to want to ditch it as the maintenance costs are unbearable, but it's a rad rad car. also make sure to get 17 inch wheels, winter package (heated seats) and see if someone will throw in a rack, i'd also recommend a plastic tray for the trunk so you can put all sorts of dirty crap like boots, etc. down without damaging the carpet/interior. don't get suckered into halogen lights with the gyros (pain in the ass and always failing with expensive bulbs), make sure to save enough for snow tires (not essential but nice)

Agreed. This year it's illegal to drive in MTL without snow tires. Makes for an interesting comparison on trips to Jay Peak, lots of sliding and cars in snowbanks while we cruise by without too many issues.
